Watch Lamborghini and McLaren roar down Deansgate as police and council slam 'boy racers'

Police and councillors have slammed 'boy racers' who were driving high performance cars around the city centre over the weekend - describing it as 'anti-social behaviour'.

Greater Manchester Police reported there were a 'large number' of people driving 'flash' supercars in laps around the city on Friday and Saturday night.

They included a red Lamborghini that was seized by police and the driver reported for having no insurance.

Today, an eyewitness shared a video with the Manchester Evening News of a red Lamborghini he saw on Friday night on Deansgate alongside an orange McLaren.

It is not known if this was the same Lamborghini later seized by police.

The footage shows the two cars stopped at traffic lights on the corner of Quay Street where they can be heard loudly revving their engines and then speeding off.

The streets were busy with people enjoying a drink after work in the sunshine at the time, and the eyewitness said he felt there could easily have been a collision as several people were crossing the road.

"It was pretty dangerous," he said.

"A second earlier and the guy crossing would be on the bonnet.

"They are nice cars to be honest, but in a certain environment rather than in the middle of Manchester."

City centre Inspector Jon Middleton hit out at the supercar drivers over their behaviour.

He tweeted on Saturday night: "I don't know why people want to spend a fortune to hire a car & sit in a traffic jam on Deansgate.

"They need to understand people live in the city & don't appreciate the noise & anti-social behaviour. We've currently got traffic officers dealing and a Lamborghini has just been seized."

The council's city centre spokesperson Pat Karney joined the condemnation.

Reacting to the police seizing the Lamborghini, he tweeted: "Excellent. These boy racers (men in their twenties and thirties) rev up and down Deansgate. Grow up. Pathetic masculinity."

The incident comes after another Lamborghini escorting a student to their school prom was pulled over by police and towed away after the driver was found to have no insurance.

The car, which is thought to be worth at least £300,000, was seized near Manchester Road in Oldham on Wednesday.

Police spotted the driver being 'erratic' so stopped the car.

Checks then revealed that the driver did not have suitable insurance to drive the white Lamborghini.

The vehicle was then seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act.
