Kyrie Irving’s future in Boston has been the subject of speculation for months, and he’s expected to opt our of his Celtics deal and become a free agent this summer.
Irving’s frustrating season came to an end Wednesday night as the Bucks knocked the Celtics out of the playoffs with a 116-91 Game 5 win in Milwaukee. Irving met with the media after the loss and, in response to a reporter asking for his takeaway from the Eastern Conference semis, said, “for me, it’s just moving on to the next thing and seeing where that ends up.”
Irving had previously vowed to Celtics fans that he would re-sign and remain in Boston, but after a disappointing playoff run, many analysts expect Irving to bolt this offseason. According to Jalen Rose, Irving’s teammates will “help him pack his bags.”
