Kyler Murray signed his rookie contract with Arizona earlier this week, making the first overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft officially a Cardinal. So, it’s time to say it: Drafting Murray was the right move for the team, which did not have the quarterback play it wanted last season despite trading up to draft Josh Rosen out of UCLA.
Rosen gracefully moved on, so it’s time for everyone else to do the same. If Murray’s production as a rookie compares to Rosen’s in the same way the 2018 Heisman Trophy winner’s college stats stack up to Rosen’s in college, the contract of more than $35 million guaranteed won’t be the only thing saying Murray was the right move for Arizona.
