WATCH: Kyler Murray says the Cardinals were his preferred team to join

The Arizona Cardinals made Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft Thursday night, ending what was months of speculation that they would do so.

Murray, reacting to being drafted by the Cardinals, says it is exactly where he wanted to end up.

“It’s a surreal feeling, but for me, I’m moreso happy that I’m going to the Cardinals, honestly,” he said after being selected. “That’s where I wanted to go play.”

He gets to be the first player selected. He gets to be coached by Kliff Kingsbury, with whom he has a great relationship.

Now he gets the opportunity to be the quarterback to turn around a franchise that was the worst team in the NFL a season ago.
