There wasn’t a whole lot to get excited over in the Boston Celtics New Year’s Day loss to the Detroit Pistons, but star wings Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum were — as usual — reliable bright spots in an otherwise unremarkable flop of a contest.
Tatum led all Celtics with 28 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal, while Brown was close behind with 25 points, 9 boards and 3 steals. Both had a tough night shooting from beyond the arc however, going a combined 4-of-18 from 3-point range. When this duo is cooking, there are few teams in the league that can stop the Celtics — but it seems at least for the rest of the team, Friday’s effort was reheating leftovers at best.

Let’s hope it was more akin to a hangover from the success of the blowout against the Memphis Grizzlies — or perhaps of a different variety — than anything that will linger.
