Jadeveon Clowney will play in the season opener for the Seattle Seahawks despite being limited in practice in his first week with the franchise.
The Seahawks announced the acquisition of the Pro Bowl defensive end from the Houston Texans on Sunday.
Clowney, along with Ziggy Ansah, will add an aggressive attack to the team’s defense this season. Ansah signed a three-year deal with the team in May, leaving the Detroit Lions. Ansah was also listed as limited on the Seahawks’ practice report Wednesday.
“To have both Ziggy and Jadeveon on our team, that’s different, that’s a unique matchup right there,” head coach Pete Carroll said (via ESPN).
Seahawks beat reporter Gregg Bell shared on Twitter that defensive line coach Clint Hurtt said both players are close to 100% physically and will play Sunday versus the Cincinnati Bengals.
Clowney sat out the off-season and was public about desire and willingness to sit out the season as negotiations continued with the Houston Texans. After the University of South Carolina product was traded over the weekend, he looks to be in satisfactory condition and will be monitored by the Seahawks staff during Sunday’s Week 1 game.
“There is a difference between working-out condition and football shape, especially when the tempo starts picking up and things like that,” Hurtt said. “But he’s out there running like a gazelle, so he looks good.”
