Watch: Irish man with Parkinson's shows unbelievable effects of deep brain stimulation unit

An Irish man with Parkinson's disease stunned the Claire Byrne Live audience as he revealed the effects of his deep brain stimulation unit.

Claire Byrne introduced Brian Donnellan on her show on Monday night where he showed the tv host the effects of the device.

In a video posted to the RTE One programmes twitter page, Brian switched off his deep brain stimulation unit and the effects of the disease took over his body.

The show said in its tweet: "Brian Donnellan shows the effect of turning off his deep brain stimulation unit, which controls his Parkinson's symptoms.

"The units are made in Clonmel but are not available in Ireland."

Brian, who lives with Parkinson's disease, decided on Monday night to demonstrate the effects this modern technology has on his health.

Brian used his unit to show the whole of Ireland the positive impact it has on his quality of his life.

When turned on, Brian could clearly speak and follow the finger of the man in front of him.

When switched off, there was a clear change to his body.

His hand began to shake and he could no longer follow the man's finger and he also became short of breath.

Claire Byrne, host of the show, became concerned and urged Brian to "switch it back on".

Once the unit was switched back on Brian exclaimed "I'm back", to her relief.

Brian demonstrated the unit in order to prove a point that Parkinson's sufferers deserve access to specialist care and support.

They do not have this support as the units are currently not available in Ireland.

Let's hope they become readily available in the future.
