Watch incredible drone footage over American Adventure theme park before building work started

Footage captured over the site of the former American Adventure theme park site shows the daunting reality of the vast empty space.

With permission of the landowner James Dawkins used a drone to capture footage of the derelict site.

The popular theme park, near Ilkeston, closed in 2007 after the owners experienced financial difficulties.

Now, more than 20 years later, has the site finally been sold to a construction developers, Waystone, despite a petition being signed by more than 10,000 to restore the former attraction.

The land is now being prepared for the building work to start, which will include the creation of 307 homes, a hotel, a retirement village, leisure facilities and offices.

Luckily Mr Dawkins got to the site before the land was flattened.

In the footage, the iconic 30-acre lake which the replica-size Wild West town theme park was based around can be seen in all it's glory.

Theme park enthusiasts will also be able to point out where former rides stood, including The Missile and the log flume.

The work to prepare the site is expected to last for the rest of this year, before the construction of home starts in 2020.
