Watch hundreds of crows descend outside Greggs leaving man feeling threatened

A plasterer has described "apocalyptic" scenes of crows loafing around outside Greggs in Southmead.

Hundreds of the birds were perching on rooftops, lampposts, cars and bins in a steak-out of the Arnside Road bakery on June 18.

Footage of them on the nearby common was shot by 42-year-old Douglas Scaife, who had visited Greggs for a lunch break from a plastering job.

Mr Scaife, of Pucklechurch, said: "The greatest numbers were just outside Greggs.

"When I entered Greggs one followed me in, but the woman behind the counter immediately chased it out.

"She said they were a real problem as they enter the shop often and steal packs of crisps.

"When I left Greggs with my bacon roll I felt genuinely threatened by the apocalyptic number that were looking at me."

He came to realise the crows were "harmless" over the course of his two-week job, during which he went to Greggs each lunchtime.

"I know it is unusual to find crows as opposed to rooks in such large groups, but I know they were crows because my dad had one as a pet when I was a kid."

Greggs declined to comment.
