Watch how food is prepared for 100 people breaking fast at Bristol Mosque during Ramadan

How do you arrange the feeding of 100 people who haven't eaten all day when you yourself haven't eaten?

Well Bristol businessman Abdul Malik knows exactly what that it is like. And as he revealed to Bristol Live its no easy task.

The chairman of Easton Jamia Masjid on St Marks Road has a wide range of duties, in particular during the Holy Month of Ramadan where it is his role to oversee the breaking of the fast each evening. Known as Iftar.

We follow him as he buys produce from nearby supermarkets, prepares the food in the mosque, and then serves to the people.

Each evening the mosque can feed up to 100 people, and food is paid for each night by a different nearby family.

Hot food is all cooked at a nearby takeaway, with fruit and snacks prepared by Abdul and his associates.

At the call to prayer the fast is traditionally broken with a date, and water. Then a big big meal follows.

In the film above Abdul explains the purpose of the fast, the tradition of how this is broken in the evening Iftar, and witnessing first hand how testing a day in work it can be.

The 46-year-old grew up in the area, and attended Whitefield School in Fishponds.

He founded the successful butchers range called Pak Butchers, which supplies halah meat to a range of organizations across the region.

He was a founding member of Bristol Eastside Traders, a collection of local businesses and shop keepers.

Throughout the Holy month of Ramadan, Bristol Live is launching a series of video interviews and photo galleries with local people.

We are following as they experience fasting, and how it affects their work.

This includes a sport coach, a teacher, an Uber driver, and a chef amongst others. Keep an eye out for these stories as the month goes on.
