Jadeveon Clowney and the Houston Texans had been discussing a new deal, but after missing the 3 p.m. (central time) deadline Monday, July 15, the team and player will have to wait until the end of the season to talk about the linebacker’s next contract.
The Texans franchise tagged the linebacker, so he’s only eligible to play under the tag this season (but he hasn’t signed that yet). The complications in negotiations between the edge rusher and the team stem from the Texans’ need to leave cap space for quarterback Deshaun Watson’s eventual next contract as the 2017 NFL Draft pick is still playing on his rookie deal.
