WATCH: Homer-heavy start to season has 7 MLB players paced to hit 50 HRs this season

Major League Baseball is one-third of the way through its regular season and there are seven players on pace to hit seven home runs this season.

This stat may not be news to anyone keeping tabs on the baseball season, as multiple teams (including the Dodgers, Mariners, Padres, and Twins) have each set a home run record in some category or another already this season.

Two of the seven pacing-for-50 players, Cody Bellinger, and Christian Yelich both tied the all-time mark for homers before the start of May. In 2017, MLB all-time records for total home runs and home runs per 9 innings were broken, but even in that season, only two players (Aaron Judge and Giancarlos Stanton) broke the 50-dingers mark.

This season, Bellinger, Yelich, the Mets’ Pete Alonso, the Twins’ Eddie Rosario, the Pirates’ Josh Bell, the Yankees’ Gary Sanchez, and the Reds’ Derek Dietrich are all on pace for at least 50.
