Hibernian loanee Tom James fired home a superb free kick to seal Wigan Athletic's first win of the season at Portsmouth.
The full back joined the Latics on a temporary deal from the Easter Road side earlier this month after finding his gametime restricted in Leith.
Wigan were already a goal up through winger Lee Evans when the Welshman stepped up from 30 yards, driving the ball over the Portsmouth wall and beyond goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray.
James' - who joined Hibs from Yeovil Town in 2019 - sole strike in green and white also came from a set piece in a Betfred Cup group stage win over Alloa Athletic.
Portsmouth pulled a late goal back through Ellis Harrison, but Wigan held on to seal their first win of the campaign after their squad was ripped apart when the club slid into administration during the summer.
James had not appeared in a matchday squad for Hibs since February's win over Ross County before departing on loan.
His last appearance for the club came in the Scottish Cup fourth round replay win over Dundee United.
