WATCH: Heartwarming Woodie's Christmas ad set in Dublin sure to have tears flowing

A new Christmas ad filmed in Dublin is sure to get the tears flowing when it debuts on Irish screens tomorrow.

The heart-warming Woodie's ad was filmed over two days on Ebenezer Terrace in Dublin 8 but there's nothing Scrooge-like about the amazing characters featured in the video.

The clip centres local woman Mrs Higgins, a trusted pillar of the community beloved by the other residents.

The ad shows Mrs Higgins being warmly greeted by all who meet her as she leaves her house and goes about her day.

But Mrs Higgins continues to have trouble with her faulty gate, until she returns one evening to find it has been fixed for her by local teenager Arron.

Woodies said they wanted to make an ad that reflected the small acts of kindness displayed by Irish people to their neighbours during lockdown.

The DIY giant's Market & Digital Director, Suzanne Quinn said: "We have seen first-hand how the small acts of homemaking have become a part of everyone’s lives, more so now than ever.

"‘Mrs Higgins’ celebrates these acts of kindness happening across Ireland and the immense sense of community - Team Woodie’s feel privileged to be able to play a small part in helping make that happen."

Head of Marketing at Woodie’s, Hilda Lyon, added: “We wanted to produce a Christmas Campaign that told a story that was relevant to our customers and their lives. Christmas is a time for reflection and we wanted to reflect on the good that has come from this past year, a year where we all did our best to look after one another.”

The hardware chain's own staff, customers and suppliers also stepped up to help their local community this year, raising a record breaking €415,567 for four children’s charities with Woodie’s Heroes.

The new ad will begin airing on Irish screens from Sunday, November 15.
