Watch: Healy-Rae brothers kick off 33rd Dail with trad session outside Leinster House

The Healy-Raes kicked off the opening of the 33rd Dail with an impromptu trad session outside of Leinster House.

Michael and Danny Healy-Rae who reclaimed their Kerry seats in the recent General Election were joined by a cohort of supporters from the Kingdom for the celebrations.

Michael Healy-Rae is seen tapping his knee to the music as his brother Danny gets stuck in to an accordion.

Posters with the brothers were held aloft reading, "Political Rae-ality" and "Healy-Rae, here to stay" with cartoon figures of the men in green and gold - the colours of Kerry GAA.

The lively scenes kick started the first day of Dail Eireann where members voted to re-elect Fianna Fail TD Sean O'Fearghail as Ceann Comhairle.

And leaders of the four main parties were nominated for the position of Taoiseach.

Nominated members include outgoing Taoiseach, Fine Gael's Leo Varadkar, Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald, Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin, and Green party leader Eamon Ryan.

However it was a shambolic day in the end as the only real business that was conducted was the election of Ó Fearghaíl as Ceann Comhairle, Dáil chairman.

He won by a landslide with 130 of the 160 votes.

Sinn Féin leader, Mary Lou McDonald, won the most votes for Taoiseach, but with her tally of 45, she was still miles away from the majority needed of 80.
