WATCH: Hamilton home lights up skies and thrills record crowd with Xmas display

A spectacular Christmas light display is now up and running at a Hamilton home.

Hundreds turned out for the popular charity switch-on event on Sunday at Alness Terrace.

And as locals were dreaming of a light Christmas, an incredible £806.73 was raised for the Les Hoey DreamMaker Foundation - proving to be the biggest and most successful event yet since Iain Fleming and his festive family began lighting up the sky 12 years ago.

The dazzling display was seen by over 800 people who came along on the night - with some travelling as far as Dunfermline to join in the festive cheer.

A full line-up of fun kicked off at 5.30pm with Stevie Lennon providing music on the decks before the countdown for the lights to be switched on at 6pm.

Then followed James Grant singing some Christmas songs for the crowd before Santa made a special appearance.

There were also snow machines in full flow as crowds enjoyed a magical evening.

Dad-of-three Iain spent weeks preparing the lights which encompass his house and garden, with literally thousands of bulbs twinkling in the display, and no fewer than 154 plugs in place to power them.

As last year's switch-on was cancelled due to the pandemic, Sunday's event was even more keenly anticipated than ever, and a first at the family's new home in Alness Terrace. The display formerly took place at nearby Forth Terrace.

Iain told Lanarkshire Live : “It was a great success. We reckon between 800 and 900 people turned up on the night for the switch-on which is incredible.

“That’s the biggest crowd that I’ve ever had for any event like that.

“It was pretty crazy, we usually see about 300-400 come along so we’ve doubled the amount that’s came to the switch-on this year.

“It was very overwhelming to see that many people turn out, it was really impressive and the amount of money raised is fantastic - the most we’ve ever raised too.

“We’re now at 154 plugs plugged in for the lights.

“This is the third year we’ve raised money for the Les Hoey Foundation and it’s a charity that helps kids so it’s a big reason why we do this.

“People had been messaging from Dunfermline, Gourock, Kilmarnock, and all over all asking for the address to come along on the night.

“And when we had the Facebook live video we had people tuning in from Canada, Belfast, America and all over the world watching the feed. At one point we had 598 people watching live. It was crazy."

As always the lights display is all for a good cause and locals have already donated generously to children's charity, the Les Hoey DreamMaker Foundation.

The lights get turned on at 4pm every evening and 10pm all the way through until January 1, 2022.

And visitors coming along are asked to donate kindly to the charity buckets and tins placed at the house.

Iain added: “It took weeks to get all the lights up but when you see everyone all turn up and enjoy it, it makes it all worth it."
