Watch Grey Street 'fountain' shoot water 25ft into the air - leaving one man soaked

A makeshift water fountain sprung up on Newcastle's Grey Street - leaving one man soaked.

The impromptu water display on the city's 'finest street' happened during preparations for NE1's pop-up park.

Pictures and footage was captured of what appears to be a sprinkler shooting a jet of water straight into the air in front of Hood Street.

The high pressure water 'fountain' spurted up to around 25ft just after 8am on Thursday.

A worker who was left trying to bring the water spray until control for around five minutes and according to one passer-by was "soaked" in the process.

Work is now continuing on the Grey Street Gathering which will host various activities for families over the school holidays and in the summer months.

NE1 also hope the pocket park will be an ideal location for busy commuters and visitors to the city to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Grey Street throughout the summer .

The park, which includes fake turf, seating areas and flower beds, has been paid for thanks to NE1’s Geordie Jackpot subscribers.

NE1’s Geordie Jackpot raises money for local worthy causes through 50% of its ticket sales funding initiatives designed to improve the city centre, such as the Grey Street Gathering, and to help Cash for Kids the local charity working with disadvantaged children.

The remainder of the cash is used towards cash prizes and helping to fund the lottery.
