The Georgia Bulldogs are ranked No. 3 by The Associated Press ahead of hosting No. 7 Notre Dame (2-0) Saturday and the intensity around football season near Athens is ramping up. One local grocery store is sending a clear message to fans of the Fighting Irish leading into the game by removing a green product with “Irish,” in the name from its shelves for game week.
The Bulldogs’ fan base wore pink Saturday in honor of Arkansas State head coach Blake Anderson’s late wife, Wendy, who recently died of breast cancer. But as Kirby Smart and the Dawgs (3-0, 1-0 SEC) prepare for a Top 10 meeting and kickoff between the hedges, fans and (apparently) nearby businesses are readying for the team’s first game versus a ranked opponent this season by making it clear they won’t be as kind about their next opponent as they were Georgia’s previous.
Dill’s Food City posted to its Facebook page to start the week and shared pictures of staff clearing the shelves of Irish Spring soap, writing “Sorry Dill’s customers, there will be no Irish Spring at our stores this week. Go Dawgs!”
There are a couple Dill’s stores within in an hour’s drive northeast of Athens, according to Google, in Royston and Lavonia, Georgia.
