Watch: Free agent QB Cam Newton shows off cannon on Instagram

One of the main reasons the Panthers picked Cam Newton at No. 1 overall in the 2011 draft was his arm strength. Over the years, Newton proved he was able to hit receivers in stride 50 or more yards down the field. In recent years, Newton’s once-legendary velocity and range have been questioned though, particularly following two surgeries to his throwing shoulder.

That’s why this video Newton shared on his Instagram account today is significant. Cam’s cannon appears to be fully operational from the looks of things. Watch Newton air this one out deep.

Looks like it might have been overthrown, but the salient point here is that Newton is once again able to throw that far. Compare that with how his arm looked before he was shut down late in 2018 and you’ll see a serious contrast.

Newton’s left foot also seems to be in good shape.

In any case, Newton passed a physical the day before Carolina released him, so that should at least alleviate some concerns about his health.

Several teams should be interested, but the Chargers and the Patriots would likely benefit the most from signing him.
