Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, Julie Ertz and Rose Lavelle of the U.S. women’s national team all are on the shortlist for FIFA’s Best Women’s Player award. FIFA shared the list of 12 finalists on Wednesday.
Megan Rapinoe seems like the favorite, already having racked up the Golden Ball (World Cup’s best player), Golden Boot (World Cup’s top scorer) and FIFA player of the match honors in early July. Rapinoe produced six goals and three assists throughout the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France, pacing the United States to its second-straight World Cup title.
Jill Ellis, the USWNT head coach who just announced her resignation from the program, is nominated for FIFA’s Best Women’s Coach award.
A public vote is open now and winners will be announced Sept. 23 at The Best FIFA Football Awards in Milan, Italy.
