The hype around the Kentucky Derby, following the first-ever disqualification of a winner for interference, at one point seemed it may help horse racing draw eyes for The Preakness.
Now, two weeks later, neither Maximum Security (the first finisher, DQed for a bump) nor Country House (the winner) will run the next race on the Triple Crown trail. Here’s are four horses — two which ran in the Run For the Roses and two which did not — to keep an eye on Saturday, and maybe to put money on, too.
Improbable is favored to win (5-to-2 odds) on the morning line and trainer Bob Baffert’s history bodes well for the pick, as he’s looking at the opportunity to win a record eighth Preakness this weekend. War of Will is the second choice at 2-to-1 odds. War of Will is the horse Maximum Security interfered with at Churchill Downs and ended up finishing in eighth place.
At 10-to-1 odds, Owendale is the best value in the field. Owendale and third-favorite Anothertwistafate (6-to-1 odds) finished 1-2 at the Lexington Stakes in mid-April. It seems it’s any horse’s race.
