WATCH: Former Red Sox star David Ortiz recovering from 3rd surgery

David Ortiz underwent a third surgery earlier this week following complications from a gunshot wound after being shot in the Dominican Republic last month and is “recovering well and in good spirits,” according to a statement from his wife Tiffany via the Boston Red Sox on Thursday.

Ortiz had the surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he also had his second surgery and has stayed recovering for about a month since the shooting.

Ortiz was shot in what police in the DR call a case of mistaken identity after a hit was ordered on his friend, Sixto David Fernandez. Fernandez was seated at the same table as Ortiz at the time of the shooting June 9. Ortiz was shot in the back, then had emergency surgery in the Dominican Republic before being airlifted to Boston. Police have arrested 14 people in connection with their investigation of the shooting, including the suspected gunman.
