Watch: Former Panthers WR Torrey Smith announces retirement from football

Former Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith has announced his retirement from football in a video he shared on his Twitter account.

Smith was cut by Carolina when the roster was trimmed from 90 to 53 players, even though he’d taken a $2 million pay cut.

Smith ends his NFL career having won two Super Bowl rings, one with the Ravens and another with the Eagles. For a time, he was one of the top deep threat wide receivers in the league. Smith played in 119 regular-season games over eight seasons, totaling 319 catches for 5,141 yards and 41 touchdowns. He also played in 11 postseason games, finishing with 33 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns.

In addition to being a solid receiver, Smith has always been a class act and is heavily involved in the communities of everywhere he’s played. We wish him nothing but the best in his next chapter.
