WATCH: Former No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett waived by Houston Rockets

Former NBA Draft No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett has been waived by the Houston Rockets, according to The Athletic.

The former UNLV star hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2016-2017 season, when he was with the Brooklyn Nets, but signed a non-guaranteed contract with Houston during the offseason.

The news of the Rockets waiving the 6-foot-8 power forward comes following reports last week that indicated he would have to have knee surgery soon.

Bennett played one season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who selected him with the top pick in 2013, then was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2014. The Timberwolves waived Bennett a year later and he signed one-year deals with the Raptors, then the Nets before going to play basketball in Turkey and playing in the G League.
