Former Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen is “fighting with everything he has,” while battling heart and kidney issues and a serious infection, according to a statement released by his family.
The statement explains that Lorenzen, who still holds UK records for passing yards, completions and total yards, had not been feeling well for weeks before he was hospitalized over the weekend and moved to the Intensive Care Unit.
Nicknamed “The Hefty Lefty,” Lorenzen was a backup for the New York Giants and is the former commissioner of the Ultimate Indoor Football League. He has been open about his battle with weight issues over the last couple of years, but there is no confirmation that these health issues are related.
