WATCH: Former Cardinals practice squad QB gets absolutely destroyed in AAF debut

The NFL season is over, but a new football league, the AAF, is trying to gain some intrigue. Its rosters are littered with players who couldn’t quite make NFL rosters. The team in Arizona, the Hotshots, has 17 former Arizona Cardinals players on its roster.

But it was another former Cardinals player who got attention on social media in the league’s debut.

Quarterback Mike Bercovici, who played collegiately at Arizona State and spent a short amount of time on the Cardinals’ practice squad, was lit up by a defender.

It is a hit that probably would have been flagged as a penalty in the NFL.

Here is the play:

Bercovici, who plays for the San Diego Fleet, was hit by San Antonio Commanders linebacker Shaan Washington. The ball pops out. Bercovici’s helmet flies off.

It was old-school football.
