David Balfe has been widely tipped as one of the potential break-out stars of 2021 - not just here at home, but well beyond Irish shores.
The performance poet and music producer from Donaghmede caused a stir last year by making his television debut on the BBC's prestigious Later... with Jools Holland, and giving an emotional performance of his song For Those I Love, dedicated to his best friend and fellow poet Paul Curran, who took his own life in 2018.
With his debut album under the For Those I Love name due out on March 26, Balfe appeared on RTÉ One's Tommy Tiernan Show on Saturday night, giving a raw, powerful interview about friendship and loss, and an equally impassioned performance of his current single Birthday.
