The cab of the vehicle burst into flames near Catthorpe Interchange causing delays between Junction 20 and Junction 18.
Two lanes were closed as crews from Guilsborough fire station in Northamptonshire tackled the blaze.
Smoke from the lorry blew away from the carriageway, allowing traffic to continue moving past in a single lane, LeicestershireLive reports.
There were 45 minute delays on the approach to the incident above usual journey times for almost an hour, with queues stretching back six miles.
Average speeds on the approach to J19 reached as low as 11mph.
All lanes were re-opened by 8.30am.
