Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores is now on the record about which quarterback has the edge for his team, five days into camp.
“It’s pretty clear to me that Ryan Fitzpatrick is leading the way,” Flores said on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
That may not come as a surprise, but it is the first public statement about that reality to this point. Flores is open about wanting a competitive culture in his first season as the leader of the Dolphins, and he wants the team to be young, as well. So, Josh Rosen is likely still in the quarterback competition even in light of the comments.
Fitzpatrick is entering his 15th season in the league and is with his ninth team overall, he made starts with seven teams in his career already (which is an NFL record).
Rosen, of course, was taken off of the Arizona Cardinals’ hands (and budget) by the Dolphins in April after the team selected a quarterback with its first pick of the draft for the second consecutive season, taking Kyler Murray first overall.
