Watch first-glimpse video of multi-million pound Leeds Bradford Airport expansion

More detailed plans for a huge extension to the main terminal building at Leeds Bradford Airport have been unveiled and passengers can now take a look at exactly what it will look like once complete in 2020.

Work has officially started on the multi-million pound project , which will see a three-storey extension built at the Yeadon base.

As well as transforming the international arrivals facilities, there will be larger departure gates, seating areas and new shops, including more food and drink offerings for passengers.

To coincide with the works starting, a CGI video of the transformative plans has just been released, which takes passengers on a tour of how the terminal will look once finished.

The huge scheme will also see a brand new security central search area built alongside enhanced check-in facilities, which will aim to simplify the customer journey through the existing departure lounge.

A final phase will see the building of a new two-storey 'pier' - a replacement for the existing passenger walkway.

It's all part of the airport's grand plans to increase annual passenger numbers from four million to seven million by 2030 and comes as Leeds City Council discusses proposals to improve transport links to the airport.

Aviation Minister Liz Sugg was among the visitors to see the works begin today (Monday. She said: "The development at Leeds Bradford Airport will not only further strengthen it as an important global gateway to Yorkshire, but will also provide passengers with an exceptional travelling experience to and from the region.

"Improvements for local communities as well as major infrastructure projects like investment at Leeds station, Northern Powerhouse Rail, HS2 and Heathrow expansion will continue to bring our country closer together, helping people move around more quickly and easily than ever before."
