A baseball game in Maryland was cancelled after a firefighter single-handedly caused a rain out on field by spraying the entire field with a fire house, footage shows.
Collegiate summer baseball team the Silver Spring Thunderbolts were set to play against Montgomery Blair High School on Thursday night at a baseball stadium located right beside Silver Spring Fire Station 16, reported Fox 5.
However, as the game progressed, a stray ball accidentally struck one of the firefighter's personal vehicles. In response, the firefighter took out a fire house and sprayed down the entire field, causing the cancellation of the game, according to Thunderbolts coach Brock Hunter.
The entire ordeal was captured via cellphone camera by one of the Thunderbolts players.
Following the incident, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service released a statement.
"Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service is aware of an incident involving water discharge near a local baseball facility on Thursday evening that resulted in cancellation of a scheduled game. At this time, we are gathering information and coordinating with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police to review the circumstances," the statement began.
"The fire station and ballfield have coexisted as neighbors for years. We understand the importance of this venue to the community and take all concerns seriously. Our primary focus is ensuring public safety and maintain open lines of communication as we work to determine what occurred," it continued.
"In the meantime, we apologize to the players, teams involved, the Cal Ripken League and fans for any inconvenience that may have been a result," they concluded.
