Watch fantastic police salute as Edinburgh schoolboy receives extra special birthday treat

Acts of kindness really can go a long way, and we reckon this one left an Edinburgh schoolboy feeling on top of the world.

Police in the Scottish capital treated a youngster called Alex to a special salute – blaring their sirens, waving and flashing their lights – to mark his eighth birthday on Friday.

A short video, which was filmed in the Portobello High Street area, shows police cars, vans and motorbikes parade past while sounding their horns and displaying a 'Happy Birthday Alex' message.

They arranged the fantastic gesture for when the schoolboy was out on his once daily walk, to make up for him having to cancel his eighth birthday party due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

Edinburgh Police shared the footage on their Twitter account earlier today, posting: "Coronavirus lockdown meant Alex had to cancel his 8th birthday party. Alex never complained and knew he had to #StayHomeSaveLives.

"We found out where he walked for his daily exercise and surprised him. Happy birthday Alex. We are all in this together. #staysafe."
