Late in the Dawg’s 43-14 win over Tennessee, defensive back Eric Stokes laid a direct hit on Tennessee quarterback Brian Maurer, forcing the ball loose on the play and delivering a hit Georgia fans will remember for a long time.
UGA linebacker Tae Crowder knew just what to do, picking up the loose ball and returning it over 50 yards into the end zone for a touchdown, getting a little help from a referee on the way.
Stokes is one of the SEC’s best lockdown cornerbacks and had three passes defended coming into Saturday night’s game. The starting corner matched his 2019 production and recorded three against the Vols, tying his career high for a single game.
At 6’1″ and 185 pounds, Stokes proved to SEC quarterbacks that they better keep their head on a swivel when #27 is out there.
It was one of many highlight plays for the Dawgs, who overcame a poor start to score the final 33 points of the game and win by 29.
