Dustin Johnson underwent a “routine” arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage in his left knee on Thursday, per his agent, David Winkle.
In an email to USA Today Sports, Winkle wrote that procedure is similar to what Johnson had done on his right knee in 2011.
The world’s No. 3-ranked golfer did not indicate that he was dealing with any knee issues this season, but had a rough summer of competition. After finishing second at the PGA Championship in May, Johnson did not place higher than 20th in the last eight tournaments he played in.
Winkle did not provide a clear timetable for a return, but Johnson is expected to make a full recovery and should be back on the PGA Tour later this fall.
