Watch: Dubs ring in 1993 at Olympic Ballroom in throwback club footage

It's New Year's Eve, a time for celebrating the end of one year and the beginning of another.

And there's no better way to celebrate than with a Dublin night out. Tonight will see many people hit the city's clubs and bars as they see 2022 out and ring in 2023.

New Year celebrations have - with the exception of the pandemic - been an annual part of Dublin's nightlife scene for decades. It's one of the biggest nights of the year for many venues.

While the way in which the new year is celebrated hasn't changed all that much over the years, the places it's celebrated in have. Some of Dublin's most popular bars and clubs today weren't around this time twenty or thirty years ago, while some of the best-loved haunts from back then are sadly no more today.

Take the Olympic Ballroom, for example. The Pleasants Street venue was the place to be on a Saturday night in the 90s prior to its demolition in 2002.

This time 30 years ago, Dubs were enjoying a night out there as they prepared to say hello to another year. Unearthed footage shows New Year's Eve celebrations in those last few moments of 1992 as Ireland crossed into 1993.

From the tunes to the countdown, that night can be relived by watching the footage below. Naturally, there's a lot of 90s-club flashing imagery and some bad language ahead, so be warned!
