Watch: Dublin women form uplifting skating group and invite anyone who is having a 'crappy day'

When you hear of a group called Huns of Anarchy, you expect a bunch of people who are nothing short of fierce. But what you will come to learn is that this is a group with a wholesome aim of uplifting each other as well as their communities.

You'll find the group on Dun Laoghaire Pier every Wednesday evening in their skates and protective gear, zooming about the place and having the chats.

Dublin Live went along for a skate with the huns on a windy Sunday afternoon and the group's co-founder Lynsey Mac Gowan told us how the group came to be and what it's all about.

"May was our very first meeting. There were two of us at the beginning. And we just wanted more people to come with us so we created a little group.

"I think we have about 25 active members at the moment. We love celebrating each other so when there's a birthday we love to go out for dinner and drinks. We're going to go ice skating. We love to do loads of little different things.

Huns of Anarchy started in May with just two women and has grown into a group of 25 (Karen Morgan)

"It's just about getting together and holding time and space for each other. There's always somebody down here so even if you're having a crappy day, come down, throw your skates on and just forget about the worries of the world and have fun together. In the summer, we were doing lots of swimming before skating, so that was really nice."

The group isn't just about getting together and having the craic. Through their merchandise such as hats, jumpers and t-shirts, they also raise money for great causes.

Lynsey explains: "In the summer, we did our t-shirts first. We had the proceeds of that going to My Lovely Horse Rescue so that was really nice. For winter with the jumpers, our proceeds are going to the Phibsborough Cat Rescue."

For anyone who wants to get involved, you can find Huns of Anarchy on Instagram. Simply shoot them a message and they will be more than happy to have you along to one of their skate meetups. Lynsey says that they can even lend you a pair of skates if it's your first time.
