The Carolina Panthers are switching their defensive scheme to a 3-4 heading into the 2019 season and the organization is picking up the pieces needed to do it. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy will sign a one-year deal with the Panthers after being released from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in May.
McCoy spent all nine of his NFL seasons with the Bucs, and the opportunity to stay in the NFC South and compete against his former team twice this coming season was reportedly a part of the decision. The Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns were also pursuing McCoy.
