Watch: driver of Creamfields-bound Edinburgh train 'square goes' with trespassing swan on tracks

It was anything but a normal day at work for one train driver this morning after a trespassing swan caused chaos.

Stephen Watson was forced to bring his train to a halt near Carstairs at around 7am on Thursday after a swan found itself in danger on the West Coast Mainline from Edinburgh Waverley to London.

The train was full of excited revellers heading down to massive dance festival Creamfields in Cheshire.

The Virgin Trains driver frantically looked for an item to get the bird off the line to prevent any further delays to the service.

Fortunately, Stephen found a mop and used it to try and chase the animal away from the tracks in a desperate attempt to get it to fly off.

Bemused staff on board the train captured the unusual moment on camera showing the driver becoming visibly frustrated with the unmovable swan.

His daughter, Sarah-Clare Watson, posted the clip on Twitter where she felt that her dad was ‘giving it a square go’.

A text message sent from her dad revealed that the swan was ‘hissing and squirting poop’ at him.

Vets were then called to the scene as the swan continued to refuse to leave the train line as it appeared to have suffered an injury.

Luckily, the swan was taken away by experts and is now in care of veterinarian staff in Lanark.

One person responded to the tweet, saying: "What a legend."
