Drew Brees is expected to be out for at least six weeks after suffering a ligament tear in his right thumb on Sunday.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Saints quarterback will have surgery to repair the ligament and may do so as soon as Monday.
Brees left Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams late in the first quarter after a collision with Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
The team has not yet announced whether Brees will go on injured reserve, but we do know Teddy Bridgewater will move into the starting role in New Orleans after the team invested heavily in him in March, making him the league’s best-paid backup.
