Watch: Drew Brees, Demario Davis fire up the Saints before Cardinals game

Drew Brees is ready to play quarterback again for the New Orleans Saints, and his teammates couldn’t be happier to have their leader back in the huddle. That’s no slight against backup passer Teddy Bridgewater, who did his part to lead the team to a 6-1 record in Brees’ absence (winning all five of his starts); but there’s no mistaking the understudy for the Hall of Fame-bound face of the franchise.

Brees collaborated with linebacker Demario Davis to hype up their teammates after pregame warmups, jumping in to cap off Davis’s speech. But Sunday’s team-up marked the first time Brees joined Davis dressed for the game, having done so previously in sweats while rehabbing his surgically-repaired thumb. Signs suggest Brees and Davis will keep this energy going throughout the season. See it for yourself:

New Orleans is a game away from improving to 7-1 on the year, and they’ll go into their bye week after this kickoff with the Arizona Cardinals. It’s a big opportunity for Brees to shake off the rust and prepare for the second leg of the regular season, with high playoff seeding in their sights.
