NEW DELHI: The Indian women's team's historic, maiden Test win against Australia in the one-off Test on a typical wintry Sunday morning triggered emotional scenes at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
It was a befitting end to the first home season in Test cricket in 28 years and this triumph will certainly go down as a major landmark in Indian cricket, especially in the women's game.
The BCCI shared a video of the celebrations in the dressing room after India's historic Test win against Australia:
India look a force to reckon with in home Tests, where their spinners become a handful to deal with on a turning track.
Just a few days back, Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. had trounced England by 347 runs in a one-off Test at the DY Patil Stadium, thus achieving their first home Test win against them. Playing back-to-back Tests at home for the first time in their careers, the team grabbed this rare opportunity with both hands, making a solid case for more home Tests in the future.
Prior to this eight-wicket triumph, India had played Australia 10 times since 1977, losing four Tests and drawing the other six.
What makes the Test wins over England and Australia within a fortnight sweeter is that young guns like Jemimah Rodrigues, Shubha Satheesh, Renuka Singh Thakur and Richa Ghosh have all taken to Test cricket like duck to water.
The historic back-to-back Test wins also mark a successful start for new head coach of the Indian women's team, Amol Muzumdar, who, along with the bowling coach for this home series, Troy Cooley, seems to be making a massive difference to this team.
