The Miami Dolphins will start quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in Sunday’s game versus the Buffalo Bills, the team announced Wednesday.
“We’re going to start Fitz this week,” Flores said. “Kind of came to that conclusion over the last couple of days. We feel that was the best thing for this team and it’ll give us the best opportunity for this team to go up into a tough environment and try to pull out a win.
“And we do that on a weekly basis. What’s the best grouping, set of players, offense, defense, kicking game, to help try to win the game? We felt that was the case this week.”
Second-year pro QB Josh Rosen was benched after starting Sunday’s loss to the (previously winless) Redskins. The announcement from the coach comes after Rosen threw for 85 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions. Fitzpatrick completed 12 of 18 passes for 132 with one score and no picks after replacing Rosen in the fourth quarter.
The 36-year-old journeyman started the first two games of the season before the Phins turned to the former first-round draft pick, Rosen, to start. Now, the 0-6 Dolphins are back where they were when the season began.
Miami visits the Bills (4-1) for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday.
