WATCH: Do the Boston Celtics need an upgrade at point guard?

Do the Boston Celtics need to take a long, hard look at upgrading the point guard position? It is clear by now that the team struggles to find consistent, effective offense late in games, and a not small part of that is likely the fault that most of the players getting any kind of regular minutes tend to be score-first players.

That does not mean those players can’t adapt their games, but that takes time and often has limited returns. Would adding a player like Dejounte Murray or De’Aaron Fox radically transform the potential and play of this team? Or is Marcus Smart deserving of more of a chance to show what he can do in more of a pure point guard position?

Or should the team run more of their offense through their bigs?

It could well be that a combination of strategies might prove the most fruitful approach for the Celtics, but on a recent episode of the CLNS Media podcast “The Garden Report,” the crew debates the pros and cons of pursuing a pass-first point guard at the trade deadline.
