Watch: Disabled dog gets a new home as he fights to walk again

He was destined for a cooking pot in China, but little Abbot the Poodle mix, has been rescued and is now living in Northern Ireland.

The adorable pooch arrived with severe injuries to his back and thanks to a set of wheels is able to get around with very little problem.

His foster carer Sharon Warnock says there is even hope he will walk one day unaided.

Sharon explained: "Abbot has been paralysed for the last year but it’s thought he will possibly walk again and I am fostering him so he can continue with therapy.

"But he needs a permanent loving home where he can continue his therapy and get on all fours. He will probably never walk like other dogs, and may have a wiggle or a wobble, but he's a brilliant little personality who is discovering the joys of family life.

"He had no chance of survival in the meat market and he was picked up by rescuers with others who were in a better but they just couldn't leave him behind.

"Abbot's favourite thing is feeling the sun on his face.

"At his rescue centre in China he trailed his bed around in his mouth and placed it where the sun was shining in through the window.

"And he still does this now. He is a big personality is a small package.

"We are delighted that he has now found his forever home in Northern Ireland where he enjoy the rest of his years in peace and safety, with the love of a family and security of a permanent home."
