WATCH: DeSoto High School retires Von Miller’s No. 40 jersey

DeSoto High School retired Von Miller’s No. 40 jersey on Friday evening in Texas. Miller totaled 76 tackles (including 14 tackles for losses) and six sacks as a senior in high school before going on to play for Texas A&M.

“DeSoto is who I am, I bleed green and gold [and] it’s an honor and a privilege to be here today with you guys and have No. 40 retired,” Miller said during a press conference Friday.

Millerthen  addressed the team before their game.

“Take advantage of the moment, because your life is made up of moments,” Miller told the players. “How you live your moments is how you live your life. This moment will come and go just like the ones after it or the ones before it. But we have this time right now, you gotta take advantage of this time that we have now.”

Miller totaled 27.5 sacks during his final two years at Texas A&M and was selected by the Broncos with the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft. Since then, he has totaled 100.5 sacks in the NFL and won Super Bowl MVP honors in 2016.

After honoring Miller at halftime of Friday’s game, DeSoto went on to defeat Grand Prairie 54-7 and improved to 6-0 on the season. The 6A school is currently ranked eighth in Texas and 36th in the nation.
