Eagles head coach Doug Pederson started the week by trying to calm Philly fans with a guarantee that his team would beat the Cowboys in Dallas this Sunday.
Now, Dallas’s two-time Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence is responding to the coach commentary.
“Tell him to come on,” he told reporters Friday. “We ready. Can he play the game? He might want to shut his [expletive] up and stay on the sidelines. He can’t play the game for them.”
Lawrence has been subbed out consistently during the early part of this season as he recovers from shoulder surgery he underwent during spring. He said he doesn’t expect that to be the case Sunday, insinuating that proving Pederson wrong is part of the reason why.
“You ain’t got to worry about it this week,” he said when asked about his snap count this season. “Doug Pederson already called us out, so y’all know what it is. Thank y’all.”
Pederson’s full stance on taking down Dallas also accounted for how bad off his fans feel things are.
“I know the sky’s falling outside,” he told a Philadelphia radio station. “It’s falling and I get that. The fans are reeling just a little bit. But we’re going down to Dallas and our guys are going to be ready to play. And we’re going to win that football game and when we do, we’re in first place in the NFC East, we control our own destiny. We’re right where we need to be.”
Both the Cowboys and Eagles are 3-3 with the top spot in the NFC East going to Sunday’s winner, for now.
