Watch: David Warner sledges Steve Smith with 'if you open batting' remark. What happened next...

NEW DELHI: Steve Smith is set to take over the opener's slot from now retired David Warner in Australia's next Test series against West Indies later this month but the star batter had somewhat of an embarrassing outing in his first Big Bash League (BBL) game of the season on Friday after he was dismissed for a golden duck, opening the batting for Sydney Sixers.

In a hilarious turn of events, Warner gave Smith an earful as the latter walked out to the centre in the BBL match against Sydney Thunder.

From teasing Smith's mark-up at the stumps to his first-ball dismissal, Warner was seen having a go at his national teammate during the contest.

Earlier this week, selector George Bailey confirmed that Smith will open alongside Usman Khawaja in the two Tests against the touring West Indies team.

The decision meant Smith, 34, moves up the order from number four in the batting line-up in the longest format.

Warner bowed out of Test cricket the weekend after the last Test against Pakistan in Sydney, having been a fixture at the top of the order for 12 years.

The Australia-West Indies series starts at Adelaide Oval on January 17 before moving to the Gabba in Brisbane from January 25.
