David Ortiz was not the intended target of the shooting that resulted in his hospitalization June 9, according to the Dominican Republic’s lead prosecutor in the investigation of the crime.
Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez said Wednesday that another man dressed similarly to Ortiz and seated near him at the nightclub he was shot at was the target.
The hit was ordered by a member of Mexico’s Gulf Cartel who is still on the run, although 11 suspects (including the alleged gunman) have already been investigated.
Ortiz remains hospitalized from the gunshot wound to his back. Doctors in Boston have upgraded his condition from guarded to good.
