Watch Daniel Radcliffe read from Harry Potter as the wizard world opens a new online chapter

The wizard world of Harry Potter is set to enjoy a magical new chapter during lockdown in a series of celebrity video readings from J.K. Rowling's famous book series.

And Daniel Radcliffe himself, the star of the film franchise inspired by the books, is launching the new Harry Potter At Home programme with a reading of the first chapter of the very first novel.

The actor can be seen conjuring up some spellbinding atmosphere as he breathes online life into the opening chapter - The Boy Who Lived - of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

The idea of Harry Potter At Home is to help entertain families stuck in the house during the coronavirus crisis and viewers will be able to enjoy one new instalment a week of the story's 17 chapters.

And there will be other familiar faces to spot with Freddy Redmayne and Stephen Fry said to be among other celebrities set to follow in Radcliffe's shoes with further video readings.

Radcliffe's chapter sees him introduce his own character Harry, and the Dursley family the boy wizard lived with, for the first time.

The book's film adaptation - which starred the actor as a just-turned 12-year-old - will turn 20 next year, four years younger than the book, so the online series will be a chance for fans to enjoy the story again from the very beginning while also introducing it to newcomers.

How to find out if your old Harry Potter books are worth a fortune

See Radcliffe's reading on the Wizarding World website here where there are also plenty other ways to engage children in all things Harry Potter, from quiz and quest challenges to a request for them to send in pictures they've created based on key moments from the book.

Viewers can also register with the Harry Potter Fan Club here to see updates about the video readings.
