Conor McGregor suckered punch an older man at a pub in Dublin, Ireland in April, but the video surfaced earlier in August and the MMA star caught flack for something that is more than a one-time offense.
Even UFC President Dana White weighed in on the incident, calling it “pretty bad.”
Thursday, ESPN teased to its own full interview with the MMA star, sharing part of his conversation with the network. In the clip shared on social media ahead of the interview airing later Thursday, McGregor explains that the situation that led to the altercation is unimportant because his action being wrong is the bottom line. The fighter also explained, “that’s not who I am,” in detailing that the reason he got into martial arts was to combat the exact type of behavior that he was responsible for in that April event.
“I was in the wrong,” McGregor said. “That man deserved to enjoy his time in the pub without having it end the way it did.”
